He may not always have the best of luck but the one thing that Friday’s Wangaratta winner Notable Choice does have on his side is heart, the genuine galloper just not knowing how to run a bad race.
“He is the sort of horse everyone likes to own,” Beth Schroen said after the five-year-old recorded a fifth career victory when racing clear over the final stages of a BM58 1590m event – “he always does his best, you always know what you are going to get with him – his 100%.”
“We were pretty confident coming here today,” Schroen added though not everything went to plan as Notable Choice made a bit of a mess of the start, ending up at the rear.
“I was not where I thought we’d be,” said jockey Damien Thornon, “I would have been happy to have been a bit closer but he did jump that well, he half stumbled out of the gates.”
“But they went strongly out in front so in the end it worked out better.”
“Robbie has got him going really well,” he continued – “hopefully he can win one in BM64 grade now.”
A graduate of the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Notable Choice is a son of the globe-trotting multiple Gr.1 winning successful stallion Choisir and the winning Encosta de Lago mare El Shahar who hails from a prolific black type family that as produced the big race winners Zip Zip Aray, Laelia, General Nediym, Horlicks, Brew, Nicconi, Niconero and Interstellar.
