Carleen Hefel has been in great form for the stable of late and it was a well judged ride on So Schmick at Bairnsdale on Sunday, the tough four-year-old jumping to an early lead before taking a sit and enjoying a lovely trail.
A decision had to be made before the turn however as the leader was under pressure whilst another rival was making a quick dash out wide. Carleen pulled the right reign letting So Schmick go early and, after railing so well, he was never going to lose!
Saluting by a length, So Schmick recorded the third win of his 23 start career, one which has also seen him figure in the placings on four occasions.
“It was great to see him control the race and stride away for a great victory,” Robbie said.
“Carleen rated him very well and with a couple of runs under his belt he was able to get the job done.”
Bred at Ballarat by Wyndholm Park who stood his sire, the late VRC Derby winner Rebel Raider, So Schmick is out of the two times winning Hold That Tiger mare Play The Fool whose dam is the three times winner Marlane Lady.
