Enjoying a nice drop in class, Virtuous was sent out favourite in the BM58 2050m contest at Moe on Sunday and she rewarded her supporters with a determined victory.

Settling well back from the tricky outside gate, the tough grey was patiently steered by Matthew Allen who had her into a good rhythm at the rear of the field – picking up a bit of easy ground when he could.

Edging closer as the turn approached, Virtuous was within striking distance as she swung widest into the straight and she just kept finding the line, out-staying her rivals to record the second success of a consistent twelve start career which has also seen her figure in the placings on five occasions.

A home-bred for Gerry Ryan – a great support of not only our stable but of racing in general – Virtuous is, says Robbie “a nice stayer who is in form at the right time of year.”

“The race just panned out perfectly for her and I am sure she will continue to progress through these staying races.”

A daughter of Ryan’s Melbourne Cup winner Americain (pictured), Virtuous is out of the Moonee Valley winning Dash For Cash mare Alice’s Virtue who hails from a strong local family whose members include the stakes winners Stage Hit, Indian Raj, Pillaging, Mondano, Honey Flower, Ducimus, Loveyamadly, Hi World, Lite’n In My Veins, Kiwia, Assertive Approach, Firenza, Tuscan Sling and Marwell Lady.
