She's A Gem!

Sep 30, 2015

It had been a while between drinks for Kentucky Gem who was so game saluting at Kyneton on Saturday, the seven-year-old a mare who knows how to find her fair share of misfortune!

At previous outings either wide or held up for runs, Kentucky Gem deserved a better run in transit and that is what she got this time, enjoying a nice trail behind the leaders, able to save ground as she headed into the straight.

Always travelling like the winner and having half a length to spare on her rivals at the line, Kentucky Gem recorded the third success of his consistent 30 start career - one that has also seen him figure in the placings on nine occasions.

"She has been so unlucky of late so it was great to see everything go her way for a well deserved win," Robbie Griffiths said.

A home-bred for Peter Moran who races the daughter of Churchill Downs with Peter Moran, Janet Moran, Sarah Moran, Mark Hayes, Steve Fitzsimons, Agi Agapiadis and S Allegra, Kentucky Gem is out of the city placed Rubiton mare Little Miss Ruby who has also produced the metropolitan winner Jayconi.

Wins by Kentucky Gem are always special for her part owner, our very own Sarah pictured!
