Five For Ryan

Jan 06, 2015

It was great to be part of history at Stony Creek on Monday, our winner Solar Duchess the fifth success of the day for in-form rider Ryan Maloney.

And he rode her perfectly too, allowing her to find her feet back in the field and steering her gently into the race as she got off the rails early in the straight.

Whilst she did not get to the lead until late in the race, Solar Duchess was actually getting clear over the final stages - her 3/4 length victory a soft one as she crossed the line with her ears pricked.

Recording the second win of her consistent nine start career, Solar Duchess did a good job under the steadier of 60kg.

Raced by Dennis Malcolm, Carole Malcolm, Jamie Sturgess, Alison Sturgess, Ken Williams, Scott Irwin, Anthony Fly, Helen Scott, Jon Evans, Russell Stocker, Barbara Long, Tony Long, Paul Brumby, Robert Patterson and Klayton Kaos Klub (manager John Martin), Solar Duchess is a well related daughter of Duke Of Marmalade.

Bred by Nangawooka Park, she is out of the talented Desert Sun mare Solar Antiquity who Robbie trained to three metropolitan victories and a Group One second to Glamour Puss in the Group One Goodwood Handicap.

Maloney was delighted to kick home five winners - "you ride every horse to give it every chance," he said, "and when I walk away with one winner for the day I am happy... but today I am really proud of my achievement."
