A Winning Lesson

It was a deserved victory for Unruly Student at Ballarat on Thursday, the four-year-old having been in such consistent form since breaking his maiden at Pakenham in June.

Close up at three runs in between, the Churchill Downs gelding was superbly ridden by Mark Zahra who had the bay enjoying a nice trail behind the leaders.

And Unruly Student showed plenty of heart with the split came in the straight, chasing hard and drawing clear late, his 3/4 length victory a soft one.

"He tries so hard," said Robbie Griffiths, "and it was great to see him break through for a second win."

"We were unsure of him on the heavy ground but I have had a lot to do with the family and they have all got through it."

"It is good to see that he does too as it opens up a few more options for him in the future."

Bred by Peter Ford and raced by Terry Mahoney, Stan Kerr, June Kerr, Jenny Mahoney and Alex Astbury, Unruly Student is a son of the city winning Royal Academy mare Academic Miss who has done a great job for the stable - also producing Dash For Viz, Cash To Splash and Sweet Clementine.
