Anniversary celebrated with a Moonee Valley double
Dec 05, 2016
It was a double celebration for Roman Fizz's happy connections at Moonee Valley on Friday night. An initial cheer when he crossed the line in first place in the William Hill Handicap and another when he withstood a protest to keep the prize!
Racing in flying form this preparation, Roman Fizz was sent out at surprisingly generous odds on the back off a tough win - also at BM70 level - at his prevoius outing at Pakenham.
A 2kg weight rise did nothing to hinder Roman Fizz who looked good sitting midfield, getting clear four wide turning, joining the lead with 50m to go and putting his nose down where it counts.
"He has been really good this time around," regular rider Max Allen reported.
"He always goes well on big tracks so I was not really sure how he would perform on this tight track but he travelled really well. He wobbled a little bit around the turn but he was just too strong."
The stable's Don Healy was also delighted.
"His three runs this time in have been really good. He had a good spell before them which made all the difference, it allowed him to mature and furnish."
"We will keep him to these sort of races," he added, noting that the son of Magnus relishes the 1200m trip.
It was a great night for the stable to cheer on a double with Robbie and Shiranee celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary!
