Dancing To A Win

Dec 09, 2016

Straight into winning form was Dance With Fontein this campaign, the tough and talented mare outsprinting her rivals in the 955m dash at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Having her first run since late July, the daughter of Turffontein jumped well from the outside gate but was eased back by Jye McNeil to sit fourth, always travelling nicely.

Hooking out into the straight, Dance With Fontein hit the lead with 100m to go, quickly putting a length on her rivals to record her fifth success from just 15 starts.

And her first at metropolitan level - much to the delight of a couple of owners whose dream it had always been to win a city race.

"How good is that?!" enthused a delighted Leo Krauser whilst Shane was also over the moon - "I've had about 20 horses and all I've ever wanted is a city winner."

Leo and Shane may have plenty of reasons to celebrate left with Dance With Fontein looking ready to go right on with it - McNeil confident that she will be all the stronger over a little more ground.

"Once she gets into the 1200m races she will really be able to utilize that turn of foot she has," he said.

McNeil had been confident of a bold showing from Dance With Fontein, noting that "she feels like she has really come on from her last preparation. She came here today with a really nice relaxed attitude. She was good off the quick tempo and she was strong to the line."

Bred at Blue Gum Farm where her dual Group One winning sire Turffontein stands, Dance With Fontein is the third metropolitan winner for her two times winning dam Nuclear Dance by Geiger Counter.

Dance With Fontein's full brother Turf Crusher is a Morphettville winner whilst her half-sister Nuclear Force is a four times city winner who has produced the dual Gr.3 winner Defcon.

This has been an excellent Victorian family for generation, one that has also produced the VRC Oaks/1000 Guineas heroine Rom's Stiletto and the dual Gr.3 winner New Smyrna.
