Dominant Maiden Win for I Got Shivers

Jan 16, 2017

Deriving plenty of benefit from his game debut showing, I Got Shivers was always going to prove hard to beat at start number two and he was able to break his maiden in easy fashion at Camperdown on Saturday.

Settling midfield, the promising three-year-old covered a bit of ground but was still able to prove a class above his rivals, his winning margin a soft and impressive 1 3/4 lengths.

"He showed class in the concluding stages to run away from his rivals," a happy Robbie Griffiths said from the Gold Coast where he and Peter Ford have been adding to the stable arsenal!

Secured for just $22,000 at the 2015 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale, I Got Shivers has almost won his purchase price already!

Undoubtedly I Got Shivers' breeders (Alva Stud, Tasmania) had Black Caviar in mind when they sent their lightly raced Giant's Causeway mare Verbatim to Magnus. For, whilst the latter is "uncle" to Black Caviar, Verbatim is a half-sister to the great mare's sire Bel Esprit. And like Black Caviar, I Got Shivers is line-bred to the legendary Vain. Sadly I Got Shivers is the final foal for Verbatim who died last year.
