Exciting three-year-old I Got Shivers made it two wins from three starts with an explosive victory at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
Sent out a big odds despite having been so impressive breaking his maiden at Camperdown last month, the bay took a rise in class in his stride - saluting in the style of a short priced favourite!
Settling midfield in a well strung out field, I Got Shivers was always travelling well for Beau Mertens and, after swinging as one of the widest at the turn, he let go of his sharp sprint.
Quickly gathering in his rivals including the leader who had skipped clear early in the straight, I Got Shivers hit the front close to home and his winning margin of half a length was a soft one.
"He is a gutsy little horse," Beau Mertens enthused.
"He was three wide but comfortable and once getting a clear run he showed a really nice turn of foot."
"He showed his class here this evening."
"It was the same way he won at Camperdown," Don Healy noted, adding that "but of course it was in better class this time."
A big group of owners were on course to welcome I Got Shivers back to scale and they look to have plenty to look forward to.
A son of one of the stable's favourite sires Magnus, I Got Shivers hails from the family of the dual Group One winning successful stallion Bel Esprit.
