A Notable Winner
Jan 15, 2018
What great form the promising Notable Choice has been in this time in, the still lightly raced four-year-old looking good winning two of his last three - especially impressive charging home at Ballarat on Sunday.
Settling midfield in the 1400m BM64 contest, the son of Choisir needed luck approaching the turn and was never really into the clear until the 200m - but once the gap opened he was through it; putting on display his very good turn of foot.
Getting clear late to salute by a soft half length, Notable Choice impressed Ryan Maloney who was having his first ride on the bay.
"She settled beautifully and once he got the gap he sprinted really well," he said.
"He is a progressive sort of horse, still a little bit immature. He is not mentally there yet, he just needs a bit of time to strengthen up."
The stable's Beth Schoen agreed - "he is just a big kid who has not put everything together yet."
"Ryan gave him a ten out of ten ride so credit to him," she added.
Bred by Alpara Lodge and purchased by Robbie with Peter Ford at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier, Notable Choice is out of the winning Encosta de Lago mare El Shahar.
El Shahar is a half-sister to the Goodwood Handicap winner Zip Zip Aray and this is a prolific black type family whose other Group One members include General Nediym, Horlicks, Brew, Interstellar, Military Plume, Niconero and Nicconi.
