Beaverbrook Breaks Maiden

Jan 21, 2018

It was straight into winning form for Beaverbrook at Ararat on Sunday, the promising three-year-old racing away to an easy maiden victory at his first run since last spring.

Running some nice races during his first two campaigns, the son of Written Tycoon has been given time to mature and now looks to be putting it altogether.

"He has always shown potential," Robbie Griffiths said, "so it was nice to see him break his maiden in style aided by a great ride by Brad Rawiller."

Sitting midfield along the rails in the 1100m contest, Beaverbrook saved ground turning and was soon chasing the leader, hitting the lead with 200m to go and drawing clear to salute by a smart two lengths.

Raced by a big group of happy owners (including seven syndicates), Beaverbrook is a half-brother to the metropolitan winner Vonus out of the lightly raced High Chaparral mare Thisisus.

Served last spring by Written Tycoon's speedy son Winning Rupert, Thisisus is a half-sister to the New Zealand stakes winner Smitten Kitten from the family of big race winners Mr Tiz and Yir Tiz.
