Werbowy Breaks Through
Mar 19, 2018
It was straight to the front for Werbowy at Yarra Valley on Sunday and it was there she stayed, the promising filly proving just too fast for her eight rivals in a 1000m maiden.
And it was, said jockey Beau Mertens, a win of merit.
"The intention was to go to the front and she got there quite nicely but she probably ran a long a bit quicker than I wanted."
"But to her credit she she sustained a nice gallop and won well."
Purchased as a weanling by her happy owners, Werbowy - named after Lancome's spokesmodel Daria Werbowy - is the second last foal produced by the stakes placed city winnning Dehere mare Here For Glory who died two years ago.
All four of her foals to race have been winners and she is a half-sister to the speedy stakes winner British Lion, dam of the tough dual Listed winner British General from the family of black type performers The Travelling Man, Glory Girl and Unanimously.
Werbowy is a daughter of Fastnet Rock's two times Group winning son Smart Missile (pictured).
