It may not have been plain sailing getting Absolemm to the track for her keenly anticipated debut at Pakenham on Tuesday but it was well worth the wait, the exciting filly so impressive racing away from her rivals over the final stages of the 1000m contest.
A filly who has always shown ability, Absolemm has been somewhat of a problem child - not happy going to the gates, less happy being in them! But thanks to a bit of help from renowned horseman Julien Welsh she was in professional mode for her first start.
Slightly slowly away she did however muster pace quickly, always travelling well for Ben Thompson who was impressed by the way the daughter of Pierro accelerated in the run home - and by her behaviour.
"She has been a work in progress for the team but she was good today. It was her first start, she was away from home, it was very windy - she had a lot to deal with."
"She showed good pace and I was able to get her into a nice spot," he said, happy to be a little wide in the clear rather than worrying about "trying to get cover and ending up too far back."
"She really showed me a good will to win today," he continued, "and she can only be improved."
"She travelled well," added the stable's Reid Balfour who was confident during the running - "I knew that if she relaxed she would show a good turn of foot."
Balfour is looking forward to seeing what Absolemm does next, noting that "there is a bit to improve on there, we have something to work on."
Absolemm is the first horse we have trained for highly successful owners Alan Green and Brian Singer and we are delighted to kick off with such a nice winner!
Purchased by Robbie with Peter Ford at last year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Absolemm was bred by Ian Smith, best known as the breeder of Hong Kong superstar Silent Witness.
She is the first foal for the imported two times winning First Defence mare Nothin But A Dream, daughter of the US stakes winner Darling Alice from a family that has enjoyed a great deal of success in this part of the world with the likes of Criterion, Comin' Through, Varenna Miss, Mica's Pride, Silently, Amah Rock, Malice, Moqueen, Bull Point, Bhutane Dane, Upon This Rock, Gaze On, Najoom and recent Gr.3 winner Siege Of Quebec.
