Into the straight in the BM58 1100m contest at Bendigo on Saturday and the 12 contestants were spread right out across the track - making for exciting viewing! Especially for us as the horse charging home to beat all of them was our very own Charlie Garcon.
As Red Belle got clear close to home, looking to have the race in her keeping, Charlie Garcon picked himself up and flew, putting his nose down on the line to claim victory with a 1 3/4 length space to the third home.
It was win number five for the consistent six-year-old who has amassed just short of $170,000 in stakes for his happy owners including Robbie himself.
"He was terrific," Robbie said, adding that "he has always had the ability to win in this grade but a few things have got in his way on recent occasions... so it was nice to see him get the win on the board."
A horse who appreciates the sting out, suited by the soft 6 rating, Charlie Garcon is a son of the Prix Morny winner Myboycharlie and the Kembla Grange winning Encosta de Lago mare Vital Mist.
A half-brother to the Canterbury winner Misteed, Charlie Garcon hails from the family of feature race winners November Snow, Kuroshio, Believe 'N' Succeed and Bounding.
Charlie Garcon's win was part of a good day for the stable... we saddled up four runners with he and So You Dream both saluting whilst Feign was only just beaten at debut. And what a great run by Collectable; fourth at big odds in the Gr.3 Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield.
