Solar Shines Again

Nov 23, 2015

What great form Solar Duchess has been in this time in, the talented five-year-old saluting in easy fashion first up at Mornington in late October, racing wide next time out before again proving too strong at Mornington on Sunday.

Down in class but up in weight, Solar Duchess did a great job under the considerable steadier of 60.5kg, saluting by a soft length despite conceding the runner up a hefty 5.5kg.

"It was great to see her step up again," Robbie Griffiths said.

"She has always shown talent and she is certainly putting it altogether now. It was an impressive win and Andrew Mallyon seems to get along with her well."

The winner of four of her 18 starts, Solar Duchess is a speedy mare with a good turn of foot at the end of short trips.

Bred by Nangawooka Park and raced by Dennis Malcolm, Carole Malcolm, Ken Williams, Scott Irwin, Anthony Fly, Jon Fly, Brad Fly, Helen Scott, Jon Evans, Russell Stocker, Barbara Long, Tony Long, Robert Patterson and Klayton Kaos Klub (manager John Martin), Solar Duchess is a daughter of Duke Of Marmalade and the talented Desert Sun mare Solar Antiquity who Robbie trained to three metropolitan victories and a Group One second to Glamour Puss in the Group One Goodwood Handicap.
