Ballarat Running Double

Apr 23, 2015

It was fun cheering on a running double at Ballarat on Thursday, especially as our success came at the hands of two very exciting young horses.

Hot on the heels of an easy victory by Quedoutes, promising filly Faction was just as impressive, getting back but weaving to the field before drawing clear to salute by a soft length.

The very first winner on the new Pakenham track in late March, Faction headed to Sandown next time out - getting too far back on a track suiting the on-pacers but finishing off nicely for a respectable seventh.

"She was good last start and ever better today," Jade Matthews said - "she has had a great preparation and it is onwards and upwards from here."

"She is a filly who can just keep stepping up," she continued, adding that the stable have always been confident that "she is a city class horse."

"As a two-year-old she was working with Blue Diamond runners and she was right up there with them."

A horse who has just taken a little while to mature, Faction still has plenty of upside.

Raced by her co-breeders Coolmore Stud with Robbie, Colin Pearce, Tony Penglase, Neville Blake, John Levonis and Triamps Racing she has plenty of broodmare potential also - being a daughter of champion stallion Encosta de Lago out of a daughter of the Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.
