Melanion Bounces Back
Apr 13, 2015
Having expected Melanion to prove hard to beat when he was first up at Terang early last month, it was disappointing when the three-year-old failed to beat a runner home - subsequently found to have pulled the muscles across his rump.
Fortunately he bounced back quickly from that set-back and at Pakenham on Sunday was back to his best recording a smart victory.
Settling back along the rails in a 1200m contest at the new track,
Melanion hooked off heels at the 400m and began his run, joining the leaders with 100m to go and getting clear late - looking to have a fair bit in hand doing so.
"That is what I thought he would do first up," said a relieved Robbie Griffiths.
"Thankfully we got him right and it was good to see him hit the line so well. Hopefully he can go on with it now."
Confident that Melanion will be even better as he rises in distance, Robbie is also looking forward to seeing the bay, who is showing city class potential, rise in class.
"He will be aimed at metropolitan races," he said.
Raced by Robbie Griffiths, Peter Comley, Paul Curtain, Michael Duffy, Tim Brennan, Graeme Curtain, Troy Wilson, Michael Johnston and P B G, Melanion is a son of one of our favourite stallions Bel Esprit.
Bred by Eliza Park, he is out of a mare called Eliza Park! That city winning daughter of Scenic has already produced an extra smart one by Bel Esprit - the dual Gr.3 winner Gabbidon.
Served last spring by Helmet, Eliza Park is a half-sister to the stakes winners Kate's Myth, Speedy Kids and Brosberg.
